CVR's Center for VLSI Design dedicated to Prof. Magdy Bayoumi, IEEE Fellow

The Center for VLSI Design was honored by the visit of Prof. Magdy Bayoumi, IEEE Fellow and Director, Center for Advanced Computer Studies, University of Louisiana, USA on February 19th, 2006. In the honor of his visit, CVR has dedicated the Center to him and renamed the Center as Prof. Magdy Bayoumi Center for VLSI Design.

CVR was one stop on Prof. Bayoumi's tour that included IISc, Bangalore, IIT Delhi and BITS Pilani. This shows the importance of CVR's Center for VLSI Design.

Prof. Bayoumi interacting with the students at the Center

Prof. Magdy Bayoumi lauded the efforts made by CVR in setting up the Center for VLSI Design and praised the students doing the projects in VLSI Design. He interacted with all the student teams after delivering his guest lecture on wireless sensors.

The Center continues to do stellar projects for BE students in their final year. Sun workstations have also been acquired in summer of 2005 to enable DSM package. Complete front to back end VLSI Design tools are now available at the Center.

Center for VLSI Design

In December 2003, the College entered into an MoU with Cadence Design Systems, to receive full-fledged Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) EDA tools through its university software program. Under the MoU, Cadence personnel have trained CVR College faculty. A Centre  for VLSI Design was established, with Late Prof RVB Chary, a Senior Professor in ECE, as Founding Director. The Center is named after  Prof Magdy Bayoumi, IEEE Fellow, who had pioneered VLSI Design in the 70s and 80s, in honour of his visit to the College on 19th February 2006.

Our College was the third institution in AP after NIT (Warangal) and IIIT (Hyderabad) to have obtained Cadence VLSI EDA tools. The Centre  has state-of-the-art VLSI EDA tools comprising Cadence simulation, verification, layout and place-and-route tools, as well as 'Encounter RTL  Compiler', a global synthesis technology-based solution that delivers the highest quality of silicon-speed, area, and power as measured with wires. CVR College also trains faculty of other engineering colleges. The Center also has Altera, Synplify Pro, Multisim and Xilinx tools.
